7 October 2010 – The new building costing almost half a billion crowns planted on the Pod Palackého vrchem campus made it possible to concentrate in one place all twelve institutes of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, Brno University of Technology. Some of them had been scattered around the town and both employees and students welcome their relocation to one spot; the students will now take only a few minutes to get to school.

The construction cost was CZK 486,132,000 of which BUT paid CZK 61m  from its own resources and the rest was financed by the Ministry of Education. The premises were designed by HEXAPLAN INTERNATIONAL. It is a set of modern buildings containing extensive lecture halls and research laboratories as well as an assembly hall for 260 students. There is also a students‘ canteen and a relaxation zone.

Preparations for the construction started as early as 2005, the building permit was issued in February 2007 which was an important milestone. The beginning of construction dates back to November 2008. The general contractor was OHL ŽS, a.s. After almost two years of construction the project is now finished and on 7 October 2010 it was handed over to the university. Many personages from the world of industry and education and partners were invited to the opening ceremony. The premises stretch over almost 2.5 thousand square metres forming a new appearance of the faculty.

Studies at the faculty cover a large variety of scientific fields: control technology and robotics, biomedical engineering, high-voltage electrical engineering and electronics, electrical technology, radio electronics and teleinformatics.
